Class officers take charge and make decisions for their graduating class. They are in charge of activities for Homecoming and Spirit week, help fundraise for Prom and Graduation, and contact personnel for service projects.

• Time Frame:  Elections are held in the spring. Officer duties begin in the summer and carry out until the following elections.

• Requirements: Have to be school code eligible and engaging with their peers.

• Average Number of Participants: Each class can have up to 4 officers. 

• Leadership Roles: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer

Link Crew is a part of an extensive freshmen transition program where junior and senior mentors, called Link Leaders, work with groups of freshmen to ease their transition to high school. Activities include a full Orientation Day for freshmen and Link Leaders only that introduces the freshmen to high school in an engaging and informative way. Throughout the year, various social and academic events occur giving freshmen further opportunities to connect with their mentors and their school in positive ways.

• Time Frame:  This program occurs all year, typically with weekly meetings for Link Leaders to develop lessons and strengthen their leadership skills.

• Requirements: A completed application is required, as well as demonstration of student leadership as recognized by the surrounding staff

• Average Number of Participants: 20-25

Students work diligently on various math problems throughout the year in hopes of a successful outcome, both individually and as a team, at the annual South-Central math challenge competition.

• Assistant Advisors: Julie Heuer, Randy Koehn, Micheal Parham

• Time Frame:  This program occurs during typical class time. The competition is held in the spring.

• Requirements: Though not required, an exceeded performance in mathematics can set students apart for qualification.

• Average Number of Participants: 16, 4 students from each grade.

Interested students spend many months working hard and rehearsing consistently with their peers in order to deliver a successful and entertaining performance.

• Time Frame:  The big musical is typically held in the springtime. Auditions for the production occur around late November, and regular rehearsals begin in January.

• Requirements: Fun and enthusiastic students who will work together to reach the ultimate goal.

• Average Number of Participants: 25 or more

The NHS program consists of high achieving students that focus on giving back to the community by participating in various service projects throughout the year.

• Assistant Advisors: Kayla Dolezel, Kimberly Etter, Kayla Kawlewski, Marty Klish, Micheal Parham

• Time Frame:  This program occurs all year, with monthly meetings typically taking place.

• Requirements: GPA of 3.4+, volunteer hours, and a teacher recommendation prior to review and acceptance.

• Average Number of Participants: 25

• Leadership Roles: 4-5 officers are selected for their senior year.

SSA is a program that places authority into the students’ hands. This groups works together behind the scenes using several strategies to help students diffuse issues at school before they grow into severe problems.

• Time Frame:  This program has monthly meetings and occurs throughout the entire year.

• Requirements: Teacher or self recommendation. Trainings will be provided upon acceptance.

• Average Number of Participants: Varies but always eager for more participants.

Student Council and the WASC are student led organizations operating with adult advisors. They strive to be the voice of the student body in communication with building and district leadership. AFHS students coordinate and plan Homecoming, Spirit Week, and the Holiday Fun Day.  Student Council is also known for community service and engagement with the WASC.

• Time Frame:  This program operates all year long with opportunities in the summer as well.

• Requirements: All students are welcome to join. Participants are expected to be good students and citizens within their school and community.

• Average Number of Participants: 30-60
